چکیده

In this paper we propose an enhanced maximal ratio combining (MRC) scheme for RAKE receivers in mobile CDMA terminals. It is based on the original MRC scheme derived by Brennan, where the RAKE finger noise powers are used in the combining weights. This enhanced scheme performs nearly as well as Brennan's original MRC scheme, but unlike Brennan’s method, it does not require the estimation of the RAKE finger noise powers. In order to see what is the achievable performance we also analyze the gain obtained through the use of Brennan's MRC scheme for mobile CDMA terminals in various types of channels, and show that the Brennan's original MRC scheme results significantly larger signal-to-noise ratios than the conventionally used MRC scheme. Simulations are presented to show that also our proposed MRC scheme gives a significant performance gain as compared to the performance of the conventional MRC scheme.

Rake Reception with Maximal-ratio and Equal-gain Combining for Ds-cdma Systems in Nakagami Fading

We study coherent binary direct-sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) systems operating over frequency-selective Nakagami fading channels. In particular a performance comparison between maximal-ratio combining (MRC) and equal-gain combining (EGC) RAKE receivers is considered. For interference limited systems, perfect MRC RAKE receivers can accommodate about 5m=(5m ? 1) more users tha...

A New and Exact Analysis of DS-CDMA Cellular Radio System Based on the Physical Interpretation of Nakagami Wideband Channel

In this paper we present the performance of two uplink/downlink DS-CDMA receivers in a Nakagami wideband channel. Two detection methods were considered; namely, coherent and differential detection RAKE receivers based on maximal ratio combining technique. We consider a new physical interpretation of the Nakagami channel and the instantaneous power of the multiple access interferers. In comparis...

Optimal Combining for Rake Reception in Mobile Cellular CDMA Forward Links

A bsiract— Two methods for mult ipath combining are compared for rake reception of a CDMA cellular forward-link traffic channel. Combining based on estimation of the signal-to-interference ratio of the output of each tap of the rake receiver is shown to provide significant performance improvement in comparison with the more commonly considered combiner that is based on measurement of the signal...

A Generalized Performance Study of DS-CDMA Uplink/Downlink Receivers in NakagamiWideband Fading Channel

In this paper, we consider a mobile system consisting of a single isolated circular cell with K independent users simultaneously sharing the channel using binary DS-CDMA to establish a full duplex channel with the base station. Both coherent and differential detection RAKE receivers with Maximal Ratio Combining (MRC) techniques are considered. The performance of two uplink/downlink receivers in...

Average channel capacity for generalized-selection combining RAKE receivers

RAKE reception has been considered as an effective way to anticipate multipath signal fading in direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) communications systems. Common diversity techniques used in conventional fingered RAKE receivers are maximal-ratio combining (MRC) and equal-gain combining (EGC). Conventional fingered RAKE receivers offer increased complexity, since the number ...
